The Decatur County Community Scholarship Foundation (DCCSF) offers a variety of scholarships to support eligible students of North and South Decatur High Schools in their pursuit of secondary education. The Cecillia Springmeyer Memorial Scholarship
Available for a student pursuing the field of Education or Teaching, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, Animal Husbandry, or Agronomy.
The Shirk English Scholarship
Available for a student who has done well in Reading, Writing, and English classes and has a good command of the language when communicating.
The Russel Corya Scholarship
Available for a student pursuing the field of Agriculture or a related field.
The Nick Spurlin Memorial Scholarship
Available for a student pursuing the field of Art Education, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling.
The Robert Friedersdorf Scholarship
Available for a student pursuing the field of Agriculture or a related field.
DCCSF General Scholarship
Available for any student who will gladly accept a scholarship of $2,000 to meet the needs for college tuition.
The Jean Reed Scholarship
Available for any student who will gladly accept a scholarship of $2,000 to meet the needs for college tuition.
The George Hayes Scholarship
Available for any student who will gladly accept a scholarship of $2,000 to meet the needs for college tuition.
The Arthur Moor Scholarship
Available for any student who will gladly accept a scholarship of $2,000 to meet the needs for college tuition.
The Dollars for Scholars Memorial Scholarship
Available for any student who will gladly accept a scholarship of $2,000 to meet the needs for college tuition.
The Burney & Lucy Lehman Scholarship
Available for any student who can provide necessary financial paperwork as well as application.
The Risk-Sparks Scholarship
Available for any student who can provide necessary financial paperwork as well as application.
Eligibility and Selection Process

Any student of Decatur County Community High Schools (North Decatur High School or South Decatur High School) or recent graduate may apply for a scholarship award offered by the Foundation.

Students MUST RESIDE in the Decatur County Community Schools district to apply or if non-resident, the student must be a student of the district from grades 9-12 (total of 8 semesters.)

Any graduate of these schools may apply for a scholarship award offered by the Foundation for the 1st and/or 2nd year of post-secondary education following high school graduation.

Applications must be submitted by February 1st of the school year.

Scholarship winners will be determined by the criteria listed in the individual scholarship descriptions.

The Scholarship Selection Committee shall be composed of the following:

Two (2) teachers from North Decatur High School

Two (2) teachers from South Decatur High School
-
Two (2) current members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation

One (1) person from the community who is not in any way an employee or board member of the Decatur County Community Schools and not a board member of the Foundation.

The teachers representing each high school shall have been employed in their respective high schools for a least the past four (4) consecutive years.

In the event any applicant for the scholarship is a relative, by blood or by marriage, (including nieces, nephews, or cousins of the first degree) of any member of the selection committee, then that member shall declare a conflict of interest and shall be ineligible to serve upon the selection committee for that year. The Board of Directors of the Foundation shall immediately appoint a replacement in lieu of the ineligible committee member. Selection committee members may serve no more than two (2) consecutive years, and may not be eligible for reappointment for a period of two (2) years thereafter.

Scholarships will be a minimum of $1000 and differ according to individual scholarships.

Scholarships may be used for any accredited college, university, vocational, or professional training.

Scholarships shall be awarded only to the most qualified applicant and shall not attempt to allocate the awards between the graduates of North Decatur and South Decatur High Schools.
Note: If the applicant has attended a college, university, vocational school, or professional school, it is the responsibility of the applicant to have a transcript of those grades included in the application.
